A suitable substitute? And a couple lust-worthy pieces...

I am in LOVE, LOVE, LOVE with these:

However, at $150 Each, they're way more than I'm willing to spend at the moment (although I've been lusting over aluminum side tables like these for about a year now). I recently found these on Ebay, and I think they might be a reasonable replacement:

The picture is kinda craptastic, but I like that I get a similar shape, but with a bit of a Morroccan feel. Another bonus: Only $130 for the pair. Thoughts?

Now on to some little beauties:

Lust me! This little beauty is a steal (as long as no one drives up the price), and would look amazing sitting on top of a stack of books, on a console table, as a centerpiece...

Lust me! I see this painted orange, hung on my turquoise wall. I'm talking BRIGHT orange.

I think I'm in lust...

This first item might be a bit of an aquired taste, but I find myself obsessed with all things lucite at the moment...lucite tables, lucite lamps, lucite chairs, lucite couches...

For our next drool-worthy piece, we have a wonderful lime green side table/magazine holder. Functional, colorful, and fun. What more could a girl want?

Lust me!

Credit for my craving for this beauty must go to http://www.isuwanee.com/ for posting a similar find. I can see this against my turquoise wall, placed asymmetrically over a desk, as a focal point for my bird wall...

Lust me!

Reminiscent of all things Anthropologie, how could I not fall instantly, irrevocably in lust?? I think I need it - I'll buy it, and find somewhere for it in my parents' house, and then one day, when I have my own ginormous house, I'll place it in a spotlight of honor.

Lust me!

Oh, beautiful blue Hollywood Regency bench, how you tease me so! I can picture you sitting prettily against my wall, peering coquettishly at me with those deep blue dimples.

Deal hunting...Costa Rica

In preparation for my upcoming trip to Costa Rica, I am feverishly hunting for deals and trying to plan out my itinerary, while also trying to fit in some less touristy destinations. Not as easy as it sounds, since Costa Rica is a tourist haven. It's amazing how most of the hotels are owned by gringos!

I've listed below some of my finds, just hotels so far. I prefer to find my "activities" deals on the ground.

Arenal:
Treehouse Hotel
Observatory Lodge
Cerro Chato Eco Lodge

Monteverde:
Terra Viva

Osa Peninsula:
Las Coletas Lodge

To get to Osa Peninsula from San Jose:
Osa Shuttle - Roundtrip flight usually costs upwards of $200, whereas taking this private shuttle is less than $100/person

Where does the time go...

I've been remiss in my posting. But then again, my life doesn't seem interesting enough to blog about right now. I feel like I'm in limbo between getting out of my hellacious living situation, and getting into my very own place. I can't really make any plans for the new place, because papers haven't been signed and finalized, as much as I enjoy dreaming about glass tiles, decor, and (ugh) a new dishwasher.

I saw a funny bumper sticker today that I think everyone in my family needs to have: "Don't tailgate me...Or I'll flick a booger on your windshield."

I've seen a number of good deals lately. You can definitely tell retailers are desperate to bring customers in. The only place I'm not seeing prices fall off is in travel, but with the (slightly) strengthening dollar, we should see oil prices fall or remain steady, and more Americans once again interested in going abroad. Hopefully that will help to bring the airline prices down a bit. My favorite travel company has some very tempting tours offered at a discount at the moment as well.

Crossing my fingers...

I signed all the papers yesterday, and my realtor is submitting my offer on my very first condo! Freaking out a little bit at the thought of mortgage payments every month...it's definitely going to be a lifestyle change. But on the other hand I've spend countless hours amusing myself at work today by surfing Ikea. I have visions of hardwood floors, pedestal sinks, and glass tile backsplashes dancing through my head.

Soapbox time!

First of all, I am tipsy. Yes, today was a company lunch day. And as has become my tradition with these company lunch outings, I got a bit toasted. Tanked if you will. Perhaps 2 sheets to the wind. It all began with the lovely cocktail, then the champagne... Anyway, I have come to the realization that there is no use fighting it at these things. Plus, it makes everyone else so much more interesting.

Today I would like to climb onto my soapbox for a rant about weddings and all the ridiculous, self-centered, materialistic, entitled attitudes that go along with it. But rather than go on and on myself, please read this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/fashion/24skin.html?_r=1&ref=fashion&oref=slogin

I realize that this article represents an extreme, but it serves to illustrate my point in a dramatic way: weddings are ridiculous affairs, and brides are entirely too self-centered and materialistic. Just because you're getting married does not mean that the world has stopped and suddenly centered its axis around you. It does not mean that you have a right to expect your friends and family to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on you, or to expect people to be at your beck and call. It should be about celebrating your life with your partner, and not about seeing how much swag you can get out of it. It does not mean that the world suddenly has to look the way you think it should, or that your friends should be tortured by wearing ugly dresses and layers of disgusting foundation. I think everyone needs to wake up and remember what a wedding should really be about: two people, celebrating their love and commitment. It's a bonus if your friends and family celebrate with you.

Deal of the day tip: Happy hour! Have a favorite, expensive restaurant, but you can't afford to go there once a week, or even once a month? Call them up and see what kind of happy hour deals they have!!
